I am interested in joining as jelly swashbuckler. The problem is that all D&D oozes are Int 1 and I failed to find PC progression for any.

I really dig the ooze monsters and I was disappointed by the lack of playable stats. I'd say you can play a jelly and give him an intelligence despite what the books say (let's say he was imbued with life by a 10th level spell). For the monster half of your gestalt you advance as an ooze subtype ( http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#oozeType ); get ooze traits for free; you get to pick an ooze power every 2 levels (immunity to a particular type of damage, acid attack, constrict or engulf (need improved grab), split, ect.) and increase in size every 3 levels until huge (lvl 1 = small, lvl 4 = medium, lvl 7 = large, lvl 10 = huge). +1 con every other level until you reach large. Dex, int, wis, and cha are all normal because your character now has a personality and a mind. I'll say he can extend two pseudopods like arms and use weapons or handle tools, but I don't think that armor would be able to work. No LA since you now have a PC progression. Does that sound okay? We may have to modify things as we go.

So I'm thinking

lvl 1: ooze traits, +1 con, ooze power
lvl 2: ooze power
lvl 3: +1 con
lvl 4: ooze power, medium size (no stat change for small-to-medium size upgrade, we'll assume he started medium)
lvl 5: +1 con
lvl 6: ooze power
lvl 7: +1 con, large size
lvl 8 +ooze power
lvl 9:+ooze power
lvl 10: huge size

Also I remember one of the monster manuals had rules for converting creatures in to ooze form, so I'm going to look through that and get back to you.

how many point buy are we able to use? or would you prefer we rolled our stats?

I'm really nostalgic for rolling stats, but I think it would be easier if everyone just did a point buy. I'd be down for a point buy 34, but if everyone is willing to get together some time and roll stats then we can roll 4d6, drop one dice, roll 7 times drop lowest stat. What does everyone thinK?

i'd say leave it up to the player. it's not that big a deal. i'd personally prefer point buy to randomness, though.

Ooze progression looks good. I think I'll take couple levels of monk to compensate for lack of armour.
I am up for rolling stats.

Sounds good. Everyone can roll or point buy as above.

One should always roll for chargen. It's where the hilarity begins!
Who else is onboard so far, Tarek?
I can probably join up in a game for once if there's room, since this is right after my summer class Cheesy
Been ages since I was in a game with the ARC folks.

So far it's:

Jeremy - probably playing a cleric dragon of some sort
Ilya - playing an ooze type, probably a melee damage dealer I think
Chichi
Adam (my brother)

and there's space for one more.

If you want to join, Calvin, I'll be happy to have you along. Don't worry about party balance. With monsters and gestalt involved I'm pretty sure balance is wrecked, haha. Just play whatever monster/class you want and I'll adjust accordingly.

Chichi's playing? This should be fun!
But sure, count me in, I'll start doing chargen stuff once I'm finished with my projects and finals  next week.

Also, pixie barbarian? That example is so hilariously awesome I...think I might try making that. This might be an interesting challenge!

I found a monster class for pixies you could use if you're interested. It only gives 8 levels (5 + 3 fay levels) of progression, but that should be enough.

http://hastur.net/wiki/Pixie_%28D&D_creatures%29

The stat bonuses to int could enable a good duskblade or swashbuckler (with daring outlaw he could get unlimited sneak attacks with natural invisibility).

Will think on the duskblade and swashbuckler. Though I'm gonna see how likely I can do barbarian first, there's nothing as amusing as a miniature fairy murdering their way through a horde of mooks if I can pull this off.

Calvin, I am picking up Nymph's Kiss feat so if you want to we could combine backstories.

also maybe consider monk (wisdom bonus to AC), paladin (charisma bonus to healing and access to divine feats which can turn your charisma bonus into damage or speed and things) or some of the ToB stuff.

Low levels would be rough on a pixie barbarian, since you won't have strength or Power Attack for damage. Duskblades can use spells to augment their low weapon damage. A ranged scout would be pretty brutal, since you could fly to a height of ten feet, and then drop (falling is a free action), consistently getting skirmish damage on full attacks.

I'm happy to help if you need advice/suggestions on character builds. If you're set on a pixie barbarian, well, we can possibly make that work.

Yeah, I noticed the issue with the power attacks as well after looking through feats, even with natural invisibility to catch enemies flatfooted rage pretty much is only able to counteract the -4 str being a pixie gives. Even if buying the power attack I can only optimistically do +12 damage with something like a spiked chain assuming I get lucky and net an 18 on a roll...

I'm a bit leery about playing a pally as that somehow seems to be what I always end up playing in the past.

Also remind me again how buying off LAs work. Do I start off as less than level 4 or simply just start off as a level 4 with everyone but just take longer to catch up due to needing to pay off the xp?

The Tome of Battle classes are generally seen as a good way to make melee classes powerful and interesting. I suggest having a look at those, if you haven't yet.

If you start off as level 4, then you give the pixie one Hit Die of fey, as in its stat block. When you get to 5th level, you replace the Hit Die, base saves, and skill points with the ones you get from your class.

Unfortunately, the rules state that you can't start buying off level adjustment until your character level is three times the adjustment, meaning it's a minimum level of twelve before pixies can start.
