Easing out his cramps as best he could from the cramped confines of the landers' living quarters, Greenberg put on a basic raincoat and made his way to the fabricator. "Better get a move on if we want decent crops anytime soon," he said to himself, struggling to see past the fat raindrops sliding down his glasses.

Lorenzo isn't much for the weather, but it's tolerable enough. He wanders outside, wearing his large sombrero to block out the rain. He gazes at the pile of fruits thoughtfully.

"Greenberg, if you're done with that fabricator maybe we can analyze these fruits and plants we found? You know, so that they don't accidentally poison us." That would be bad, and he would have to take righteous vengeance on the forest by burning some more of it.

"And where the hell are all the animals?"

[[I assume the refiner parts have been fabbed and are awaiting construction?]]

Hossie surveyed the progress on the meeting hall/church from atop the cube. Things seemed to be going well, however, the lack of competence some of the colonists showed seemed worrying. This was no fault of theirs, of course. Hossie had seen it before: enthusiastic amateurs who had no training doing jobs meant for experienced professionals. Every Browning executive knew enough stories of those sorts of disasters, disasters with names like The Chauchat and the Ross Rifle. Clearly, this needed to be rectified quickly. Legs dangling comfortably over the top edge of the cube, the ex-executive brought up his dataslate.

"Now, let's get ouah prioritiehs in ordah..."

Farming was a big priority. That Marras fellah's paperwork said "Seville", which meant, at least, he wasn't an illegal. Besides, he seemed to know that he was doing when it came to farming, if not land clearance. Building was going to be big too. If he wanted Dunham to get things done on time, then Dunham needed trained folk with good, strong arms to get the job done.

Hossie pulled himself up and went towards the ladder, looked like he had some conscripting to do.

After determining how much work will remain, Conall sends the men back to work on the hall. He spends the remainder of the day walking around the edges of the work, making sure to check all the work done as he isn't sure how skilled his workers are yet. He occasionally steps in to assist with the work himself, showing the men and women how it's done.

You estimate with the rain it will take about a day to finish the building with your current man power. When Hossie sends you more men to be trained you find that you can not pay as close attention to your original workers as such at the end of the day the meeting, while mostly done, is roofless.

The next day, Greenberg met up with Lorenzo to discuss the usage of the compound. "Spread it over the soil in small clumps, no need to put too much of it in one spot. In a few hours, the copper oxide should combine with the compound and turn into loose material, in the form of solid white stones - dig those up, and you'll be good to go."
Greenberg nodded thoughtfully as Lorenzo relayed the news of the wild animal that the scouting party had encountered. "Mmm, that might be related to the tracks spread around the lander's perimeter. Odds are, the local fauna that were scared off by our landing have come back, and they're curious. They might be back again soon - keep your patrols together, don't let them venture more than half a kilometer away from the camp. Safety first."
He cracked his knuckles. "Now then, time to get to those fruits and vegetables your men found." Good thing he came to me before they tucked in, Greenberg thought as he headed towards the fruit pile. He's impulsive, but there's hope for him yet.

[Roll to analyze the fruit pile for half the day, then roll to spend the other half examining the tracks around the lander and hypothesize on the fauna that made said tracks]

Hossie stopped as he passed the open door. Inside were a handful of colonists, obviously scratched up. Quickly, he recognized them as the volunteers he'd sent to Marras.

"Y'all right folks?"

One of the colonists looked up.

"We should be, assuming that crazy doctor guy gets it right and doesn't poison us or something. Just a few scratches and sprains, nothing too serious."

"Ahlraight then. Still, put some fabbah taim intah making some disintectant. Gotta be carehful 'round these pahts."

"Yessir, thank you sir."

"What exactly was it that gaht you folk, aneh-how?"

"Big fucker, didn't get a chance to see it. Size of a cow, maybe a horse. We ran all the way back here, as fast as we could."

Hossie nodded solemnly. Clearly this world was more dangerous than they had thought. Anybody who left the dubiously safe confines of the colony would need more protection.

"Yeh did good son. Y'all did good. Ah'll be back in a minute, got somethin' for y'all."

With the rain pouring into the building all night, Conall knew he'd have a massive pain in the ass problem to deal with when he woke up. Sure enough, the ad hoc church/meeting hall was now the home to a low lake which had to be emptied out. Easy work, but a massive pain in the ass, he thought to himself as he scratched his head, coffee in hand. Small droplets still fell onto him from the sky, but hell, he was a Vancouver boy for a good portion of his life - this could hardly be called rain.

He looked over the building as his workers slowly filed out of the lander and got to work on the roofing, the last remaining part. He had purposely kept the crew of workers a bit smaller this time, as he didn't figure on needing dozens of experienced roofers, and it'd be easier to ensure a quality job with fewer people.

"Right boys and girls, we're just about done here. Once we're through we'll fab up some decorations for the place and then have a grand opening or something. I'm sure Hossie will want to say a few words. For now, lets get to work."

He nodded cheerfully to his crew, and scrambled up onto the roof to join them and help out with all the work.

"Careful you don't fall - the roof will be a mite slippery from all the rain, and while the ground is soft, if you break a bone and can't help finish the work I'm not going to be too impressed."

Most of the workers responded to his warning with good-natured jeers and laughter, brought together by the hard work of construction, and he grinned, accepting the friendly mockery for what it was.

[After the roof is finished, Conall will consult with Hossie and fabricate some appropriate interior decoration, trying to keep it sensible and not ridiculously ornate or religious.]

Lorenzo starts his morning by talking to the sheriff (or trying to) about the predator problem. "We may need to set up defences," he stipulates. "The governor is already training some of the colonists, but only your men are dedicated solely to security."

After that he talks with Greenberg, very pleased that he's found a solution to the chemical problem. The conquest of this planet for mother Earth can now begin in earnest!
