[Roll to smell anything wrong with the smoke]

Rolled 1d6: 4

You don't smell anything specifically wrong with the smoke, but with out the proper instraments its hard to tell.
[Start concocting vaccines using existing medical records.]

Some of these colonists should have their shots already, so just have to concentrate on preparing for the ones that they aren't vaccinated against.

The exploration ATV trundles into camp. McDouglas exits.

"Who is the smegging idiot who set the displays away from metric? I was lost for six bloody hours, thanks to you! How the deuce am I supposed to fathom the number of leagues in a kilometre?!?"

He pauses briefly after noticing that no one in particular is paying attention to him.

"Ahem. Anyhoo. Where is our boy? I'm not parking this thing my bloody self. And I have topographic data to share. Where is Her Majesty?"

YES. CRITICAL SUCCESS TO CUSTOMIZED MINIMALIST UNIFORMS.

Also, can we get a summary on the situation from the GM every couple posts to keep everyone on the same page?

Lorenzo submits to Hossie's logic. "Si, senor governor. I will be more careful next time." Silently, Lorenzo can't quite get over the feeling that there is something unnerving about their self-appointed leader, but so far he sees no hard evidence for it. Hossie seems capable enough; its not like they would want to start a /revolution/ because of him, now, would they?

He checks the soil sample and wonders about those other chemicals, but he'll need some other expertise. "Dr. Greenberg! You're a scientist, right? Let us do science on this soil."

Meanwhile he gathers some hombres and sends them to forage for food or things that look like food from the jungle.

at the same time, mark trees for cutting, and carve out a path so we don't get lost.

You can not fabricate machetes at this time because the fabricator is currently in use making refiners.
Your mooks are now specialized in policing and will roll two dice on any check that has to do with policing.
You scout the surrounding forest and cave out the fist path from the colony.

Those samples are so well mixed that only a true medical professional like your self could possibly unscramble them.

Greenberg scowled, but couldn't justifiably stay angry at the Spaniard, seeing as he had gone to the trouble to look out for his equipment. Still, a bit of caution would be appropriate for the situation. At the man's suggestion of testing the soil, Greenberg merely nodded, seeing some common sense in him for once, and uncapped a syringe, scooping up an undisturbed patch of soil. He went back over to the nearby tarp, and uncovered it to reveal his equipment, slightly jumbled around by the colonists' lack of care, but still intact. He popped the syringe into the analysis machine... wow, this would take a while.

(I spend the rest of the day documenting the first day's events while waiting for the analysis to complete.)

((that's right I do exist))

Lieutenant-Colonel Kurt Palmer

Age: 34

Pilot of the spacecraft that brought the colonists here. These days spacecraft pilots basically serve as an emergency substitute for the navigation computer, but Palmer couldn't resist the unique opportunity to tag along with the myriad scientists, convicts and civilians of the project.

Equipment:

1x Diagnostic Kit (for the scout craft)
1x Ramjet rocket pistol
30x rocket-propelled slug (3 magazines)

Palmer looked about him, seeing the hustle and bustle of a developing city. He knew, instinctively, that he didn't fit in here. The Spaniard farmer, the Mormon opportunist, the mad scientist scientists... they all lived in worlds of their own. Palmer's place was in the sky.

Punching a few buttons, he eased the scout into a hover just above the woods' canopy and set out to do a quick survey of the immediate vicinity.

Love.
You can learn all the math in the 'verse.
But you take a boat in the air that you don't love.
She'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds.
Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down.
Tells you she's hurting before she keels.
Makes her a home.

You can't make first aid kits because the fabber is currently busy.

On the other hand your standing in the colony seems to be increasing as you make your rounds.

Hossie was waiting for Palmer as the scout craft touched down. The acting governor's arms were crossed and it was obvious he was not pleased.

"Lewtenahnt-Colonel Palmer, Ah would laike to remahnd you that ouah fissible fuel supplahs are extremeleh limited. We cannot affoahd you takin' flaight foah the sake of mereleh flayin'. I must insist that the next tahm you go up that you take eithah Doctors Greenberg oah Gooden with ye so that they may put their book learnin' to good use and survey the environs. Failin' that, take mister Dunham, though considerin' how buseh he is at the moment, that would liakely be an impossibiliteh."

Hossie gave a nod and a tug on the brim of his ten-gallon hat as he began to walk away. As he did, another, rather horrifying idea came to him. He turned back for a moment.

"Ah yes, and Colonel Palmer? Ah would suggest we set up a moah formal arrangement foah your scout-craft. You have mah authoriteh to git some folk to cleah out a safe landin' field and a shelter foah aneh fuel oah tools you may need for the maintenance of youah craft just as soon as the fabbers are done with the refinahs. Ah would hate to lose ouah only trained pahlot because he could nawht faind a safe place to land."
