Setting
Planet AU794, a uninhabited planet that you have been sent to colonize. You a member of the first 100 colonists of Planet AU794. You must survive one year until the next supply drop arrives.

Characters
You are a  engineer, agricultural expert, psychopath, ect... assigned to this colonization mission. Each character has a specialization that they do better then most people. other then that a back story and a tag line for your character and your ready to go

Rules
Any time you wish to complete a complex action roll a D6, if your specialization applies roll 2d6 and take the higher of the two numbers.
compare your roll to this chart:
6: critical success
5: success
4: success but something goes wrong
3: failure but something goes right
2: failure
1: critical failure

Standard colony starting gear:
Spoiler for Standard colony starting gear:
Standard personnel lander and interim shelter: this is how you got to the planet surface. its a large cube with enough inertial dampeners and thrusters to land after being dropped from high orbit, it contains all your supplies as well as quarters for every colonist (25, 4 person rooms). It also houses the fusion plant that runs all the equipment.

1 Nano fabricator (organic): this machine can make food and medicine if the right raw materials are given too it.

1000 units organic materials: enough material for six months of food at minimal rations.

1 Nano fabricator (inorganic): This can make tools, parts and even more nano fabricators. But the more complex the item the longer it takes to make. The nano fabricator can not make radio-active materials.

1000 units of inorganic materials: enough to make 2 full sized structures

2 exploration vehicle: light all terrain vehicle uses very little fuel

4 heavy construction vehicles: made for moving earth and putting up shelters uses average amounts of fuel.

1 "Planet Crusher": heavy military vehicle can crush forests, hills, and small mountains with no trouble, armoured and heavily equipped, uses a shit tone of fuel.

30 gallons of fuel: this should be enough to use the explores and the construction vehicles for 6 months, or using the "Planet Crusher" for 6 weeks. Fuel is mildly radioactive and as such can't be made with the fabricators.

100 cubic feat of "free space": this can basically be what ever you want, but every time you say something is in there it uses up space.

Your characters can also anything they could have fit in their suitcases.

Professor Paul Greenberg, P.H.D.

Age: 56
Specialization: Xenobiology (bonus to analyzing and handling alien florae and faunae)
Inventory:
1 Portable Laptop with Solar Charger
10 Syringes
1 Blood and Tissue Analysis Machine
1 Medical Kit
1 Pair of Glasses
1 Fission Microscope
2 Blank Notebooks
1 Set of Writing Tools
1 Pair of Binoculars
10 Miniature Tracking Tags

Majored in genetics and xenobiology, worked around the world to analyse and preserve rare species. Received worldwide recognition when, in an effort to preserve the dwindling panda and tiger populations, he successfully crossbred the two species, resulting in a Tipandager. He received the Nobel Prize for his efforts, and was asked to join the Colony of Planet AU794 as the lead Xenobiologist. He accepted the generous offer, and is greatly looking forward to an opportunity to analyze entirely new lifeforms never before seen by man.

"Right then, those samples won't collect themselves!"

Stepping down from the spacecraft, Greenberg makes his way through the crowd of colonists and takes a look around the camp. Perfect! A nano fabricator that can make the necessary tools for research, wide open space, an environment reminiscent of... of...
Come to think of it, what does the surrounding environment look like, anyway?

Hossie landed on the dust of the virgin world with a solid thump and looked around. Yes, this would do, a new promised land to spread the word of God and his prophets, a New Jerusalem amongst the stars. Yes, this would do very finely, very finely indeed.

The big Texan tapped Greenberg on the shoulder.

"Hold yer horses fer' a minute there Doc. Gather everyone 'round before they all 'git up and scatter. We got things to discuss."

But first, Hossie remonstrated himself as he caressed the grip of his holstered pistol, he had some ground rules to lay down.

Professor James Gooden, PhD

Age: 30

Current Occupation: Applied Physicist

Specialization: Weapons Engineer [bonus to weapon fabrication and use]

Possessions:
1x Browning Colonist Fusion Laser Pistol 3000 with attached Coolant
1x Journal on Hadron Bomb
1x Black Ledger
1x Tool box [wrench, swiss army knife, screw driver, silly string, blow torch]

2x Slacks
6x black shirt
10x Underwater Breathing Suppositories

Bio:
Graduated high school at age 13, he was considered to be the most promising prodigy of his generation. Getting a PhD in applied physics, by the ripe age of 21, he was the leading scientist in making the Hadron bomb which is 9000 times more powerful than a Hydrogen bomb. Expecting to win the Nobel prize, his dream and his ego was crushed by Professor Paul Greenburg who beat him by preserving stupid pandas and tigers. From that time forth, the mental condition of James Gooden has been brought to light, with his quick anger and constant self-mutterings. No one knows why he suddenly decided last minute to join in the colonization effort for Planet AU794.

Tagline:
".... I'll show everybody what's what... yes... yes.."

First Action:

Instinctively seeing the Texan caress his pistol, Gooden nervously asked, "Who made you in charge?" as he reached into his suitcase...

Hossie glared at the younger scientist. He relaxed his posture a bit, but his hand did not stray from the butt of his pistol.

"Ain't nobody in charge yet son. That's what I propose to settle."

Figuring out that there will only be one outcome to a standoff, Gooden takes out his NEW iPad 50 and slumps dejectedly on the ground. Launching an app to scan the environment, Gooden asks, "So where is everybody else?"

Name: Conall Dunham

Age: 27

Former Occupation: Civil Engineer

Specialization: Engineering [Bonus to building stuff.]

Contents of Suitcase:

5lbs of Parrot Food
1x Parrot, Rudyard (stored in the 100ft of cubic space)
1x Birdcage (stored in the 100ft of cubic space)
1x Datatablet
1x Backup Datatablet
1x Solar charger (for tablets)
2x Gortex hiking boots
1x Steel-toed boots
5x Standard Colonial Uniform
2x Personal Clothes
1x Golf Club, collapsible
1x Bag of 100 golfballs
5x Golf Tee
1x Personal Notebook
1x Infinipen
1x Mountaineering Equipment (stored in the 100ft of cubic space if necessary)
1x Survival Knife
1x Fourty ounce bottle of Johnnie Walker B

Conall grew up in a small town in central Canada where you could walk for hours before seeing your neighbour's home. He had grander aspirations than farming, however, and as soon as he turned 19 and graduated he moved out West to Vancouver, enrolling in the University of British Columbia's engineering program. The program had gained practically worldwide renown by this point, with UBC engineering graduates working worldwide, and many preparing for moves offworld. Every new colony needed an engineer, after all, if it really wanted to grow. While he grew to adulthood in a city, he could never shake his country roots, and often found himself up in the mountains around British Columbia whenever he had a chance. He sort of just fell into poetry as a consequence of these trips, and wrote often about the colossal differences between urban city life and the remote and isolated mountain hikes and climbs. When he finally completed his degree, he immediately applied for the Planet AU794 Colonization Effort. As the only real engineer that had applied, since the planet was rather lackluster and not a job most engineers would strive for, the DoC, (Department of Colonization,) immediately jumped at the opportunity, and Conall was accepted.

The sandy-haired Canadian stepped down from their landing device, and putting a hand above his eyes to shade them from the sun, peered around.

"Hm. Looks kinda like home," he mused aloud before looking about for the colony's governor, a big man that went by Hossie. The man would likely have some inspiring words for them before they all got down to brass tacks and the REAL work that this new colony, everybody's new home, would require.

James Gooden patiently waits for the Texan stranger, sandy haired stranger, and Greenburg to say something.

Just then his NEW iPad 50 beeped, detecting an abundant amount of matter that would be a perfect component to a Weapons Fabricator.

Will it be enough to make a whole Weapons Fabricator?

"Genl'men, gather 'round."

Hossie stood straight, allowing his full six feet and four inches to tower over most of the colonists. For safe measure, he sat his ten-gallon atop the helmet of his vacuum suit, making him look even taller. As he did so, he looked around for some sort of box, finding a shipping crate full of raw materials, he stepped atop it, making himself loom ominously over even the tallest or most stilts-capable of the colonists.

"Mah fella' colonists. Today, we have made landfall 'pon the virgin soil of this heah' new world. We come from maneh' countrehs, but we have all come to tha' same frontiah! The same world, and the only way we ah' to survahve is to work togethah, so that mah strengths become youah strengths, and so that yuahs become mahne! If we splintah at landfall, we shall all truleh perish. As a great mahn of mah countreh once said, "we mush ahl hand togethah, oah we will assuredly all hang seperateleh." We need to rebuild a strong communiteh, else who will feed the sahentist? Who will scawht the wahlds for the fahmer? Who will build homes for the rangah, or tell the lawgivah which plants ah poisonous? Who will allow ouah coloneh to expoaht the knowledge and goods to affoad moah resoaces? We must work togetah! Foah that, we need figures of authoritah! Weah need leadahs!"

Hossie went to one knee, still looming over the assembled colonists, only now, he slipped out of his orator's voice and used a more folksy, conversational tone.

"Now, fer fifteen yeahs, I was an executive in the Brawning Ahms Companeh. Ah see that some of you carreh mah companeh's products. Good fer yah, thems good guns. Ahs someone with provehn leadahship capabiliteh, Ah would laike to step foahwahd and volunteeah mahself as colony directah and actin' gov'nor. Ah promise to appoaint reshponsible individuahls with recoahds of national service ahnd prohvehn skills aht woodsmanship. Yoah daileh laives will be unmolested, ah only request the powah to appoint a colonial governmehnt and fulfhil the functions theahof."

Roll to become GLORIOUS LEADER of the Colony.

[Roll to aid Hossie in convincing the colony.]
Rolled 1d6 : 4, total 4

Conall pondered, able to decipher Hossie's accent due to growing up around people that sounded relatively similar.

Plus, Hossie could never be harder to understand than his old Newfie roomate.

He seemed as good a choice as any. The person in charge didn't matter much to him so long as he was still able to do his job and go on a hike now and again. Plus, Hossie seemed to have the right idea - some colony groups split up, and from what Conall had heard, those RARELY did well. Cooperation outdid competition on the frontier, and, well, AU794 sure as heck was the frontier.

"Yeah, I'll back you. You've got some good sensible notions."

Come to think of it, what does the surrounding environment look like, anyway?

You're lander seems to have gone slightly off course instead of the temperate potential farm land you were aiming for you seem to have landed in the middle of a jungle. On the bright side you're next a lake full of theoretically drinkable water.

1x Parrot, Rudyard (stored in the 100ft of cubic space)
1x Birdcage (stored in the 100ft of cubic space)

There is now 97 cubic feet remaining in the free space area.

[arrive on planet]

What do my doctor eyes see? (I forgot how to roll)

[proceed to setup office and a medical station out of his own lodgings.]

Rolling: [roll*]1d6[/roll] but with out the '*'.
Your current lodgings are a 10X10X10 room you share with three other men. Out side of that room is a 5ft wide hallway, not the best place to set up a medical station; the ships medical bay would work much better.

[start sampling local life]

Roll to see what kind of plant you eat.
8. Gas up the lorry

you put one days worth of fuel into one of the light exploration vehicles.

Will it be enough to make a whole Weapons Fabricator? This dice roll has been tampered with!

No such luck you'll have to find much more to build a new fabricator.
