Hi I'm looking for a lot of cheap blue and yellow body paint. I've never worked with it before so I'm looking for local leads to find cheap body paint and possibly advice on applying it. I'm not looking for airbrushing services since that's expensive, time consuming, and would be a waste of talent considering the simple job I have.

I can tell you advice about body paint.

First clean the surface. Depending on what color/shade of blue and yellow you're using, defects like dust and bumps will appear magnified if the shade of the color is a darker color.

Also test spray your airbrush/paint gun to see if the flow is right. What you want is a steady flow that isn't too heavy and isn't too light. If it's too heavy, the paint will sag and you would have to sand those out carefully. And it's too light, ten it won't cover the area enough and it will appear dotted and freckled. This is also a good way to make sure your airbrush/gun is clean because any kind of oil, grease, or solvent gets into the paint job there will be fish eyes. Which is short for 'oh hey, time to restart this job again.'

You also want to keep the airbrush/gun at a steady level all time. Say you have a flat surface, you aim the tip of the brush/gun at the surface rather then, say, hold it at an angle. It has to be at the right angle of the surface. So if it's a curved surface, you go along with the curve. This would be easier to show then to explain.

And begin spraying before you actually start spraying the object you're painting. Though that may come as odd, the reason for that is so that there isn't any build up and that you have an even coat throughout your painting. This is a reason why you don't stop spraying until you go off the object you're spraying, as well as flicking you're wrist since it leaves an uneven coat.

Two more things. One being that you have to have the air brush/spray gun at the right distance for it to give an even coat. Too close and you get buildup which would lead into paint sags. Too far and you won't cover enough of it, same with air pressure. Too little, and the paint won't spray properly. Too much and it'll spread out too much. And finally, you generally want three coats of paint. The general rule of thumb for waiting in between coats is to wait about fifteen minutes so that it's moist enough to have the next coat stick on, but dry enough so it doesn't build up and sag.

Well, that's all I remember off the top of my head.

One would hope because he spent several thousand dollars and two years learning how to fix cars?

I meant like body paint for a human body, not a car body. Like face-painting you do for kids, but for the skin on the rest of your body. I'm ruling out airbrushing since I don't want to buy specialize equipment for a cheap, one time job. Thanks for the interesting info though.
