Seriously, stop killing us with you suicide runs.
Everyone is dying, what is this, an early Gundam series?

This is X-Com. If people aren't dtying, you're doing it wrong. It's just that by this point the game is pretty much unsalvagable.

Besides. I've only done four suicide runs in a row now, and the last two were complete redshirts.

I'll be Bright, Chapman, being the obvious space-nazi, can wear a mask and whine about the "endless vicious cycle of coup and counter-coup, slaying nobility and chivalry in its slowly descending spiral."

What the fuck is up with the aliens and Russians? Ilya, did your people destroy the fucking Sectoid homeworld or something? Every time I turn around in X-Com it's "ALIENS ARE TERRORIZING NOVOBIRISK!" They REALLY don't like you. I'm half-way tempted to make a base in Novobirisk next time I play, and call it the White Russian.

Also, yes, I can be the space-nazi.

It's Novosibirsk. And you already answered your question, nobody puts bases in Russia so it's a perfect site for terror attacks.

BLAZE OF GLORY

We're nearing the end of the war. We can all feel it at the base, and around the world.

Aliens run unchecked across the planet, with X-Com, the Earth Defenders, nearly powerless to stop them.

X-Com is deeply in debt to multiple nations, and is on the verge of being shut down.

A scene from a cold war movie comes to mind. A scene of a man, riding an atomic bomb. The atomic bomb that sets off a doomsday machine.

Major Kong Rides the Bomb

I always did love that movie.

The troops feel it too. Or rather, what remains of it. They've all seen what the aliens do to people they capture. They don't want to end up like those poor bastards. Captain Andrew has come forth with a petition signed by all of the squad requesting a "Blaze of Glory" run. I'm very much inclined to let them have their fun. We're all fucked anyway, so we might as well go with it. I think I'll even go along. Heh. Never thought I'd be picking up a laser rifle, but then again, I never thought aliens were real either.

The aliens had recently signed a pact with Brazil. Knowing this, I sent out our fighters at SFU ARC to scout out around there. They found the enemy base in northern Brazil, near the Venuzuelan border.

The Skyranger was loaded up, and this time we made sure we had guns. We all composed last letters to our kin, and I used my Broad Discretionary Powers™ to remove any and all forms of censorship. I sent copies of my logs to the Pentagon, the Kremlin, the Crown, and all other major world governments. All defense contractors recieved copies of the blueprints we have, from Laser Pistols to Blaster Bombs. Unfortunately, since we didn't know if there would be mind control shenanigans, we didn't bring our Blaster Launchers and their bombs. Oh what fun would we have had otherwise.

We sent our letters, and said our final goodbyes, and we were off.

Chapman carried our Stun Bomb launcher, and Paul had a Heavy Plasma. Everyone else had Laser Rifles.

The groups split up upon entering the base, as per SOP. In group one, we had Chapman , Leo, Andrew , Jesse and Vincent. They had the amazing fortune to stumble upon the Alien Command Center right out the gate, and spent the majority of their time trying to breach it.

Group Two had Wagar, Strathdee , Sam , Ilya , and Paul in it, and they tried to reach Group 1 and rendezvous at the command center before breaching it and killing everything inside. They encountered no hostiles en route.

Juan drew the short straw for scouting Group 1, rounded a corner, and ran headfirst into a Snakeman. This was good. It meant that we wouldn't be dealing with voices in our heads telling us to shoot each other in the face. Unfortunately, Juan missed two of his three shots, and the Snakeman survived.

It promptly turned and shot Juan. Goodnight, sweet furry prince. May you find the eternal yiff in heaven.

Group one arranged in a formation designed to ambush anyone who came out of that corner.

Meanwhile, group two started to make their way to the Command Center.

Leo lost a game of Rock Paper Scissors, and went out to scout. He too missed that Snakeman.

Chapman had a bright idea. His Stun Bombs had splash damage, right? So all he had to do was land the stun bomb close to the snakeman, and it would be neutralized.

Unfortunately, Chapman missed the wall.

Andrew follows the wisdom of his lifelong Idol, the great Duke Nukem. That is, "If you want to shoot someone right, you gotta do it yourself". Or was that Doomguy? Or maybe it was Halo. I forget.

Regardless, Andrew goes out and shoots the Snakeman...

...Dropping him, and Andrew draws a bead on another Snakeman through the window.

Jesse II goes around the front to check the Door...

And nearly runs into a Chrysallid. Thank god for having TUs left. Jesse bags him no problem.

Fuck Chrysallids.

Back to Captain Andrew. He takes some more shots at that Snakeman...

And kills him dead

Sam and Jesse move forward to try and doorbreach, with Jesse going in first. He almost comes face to face with a Snakeman, but he doesn't have time to bring up his gun.

You can see Vincent there with him

All this time, Team 2 has been booking it to the Command Center, and they're starting to arrive. First on the scene is Sam, who proclaims a loud "Clear!"

10 seconds later, it's not clear. Sam shoots an alien, and Jesse says "Welp", and Vincent has visual on two hostiles.

Chapman has another good idea involving Stun Bombs. Guess what it is.

Unfortunately, Chapman craigs and hits his foot.

The automagic door to the Command Center shuts, but not before the snakeman there shoots Vincent. Jesse is trapped in there with a Snakeman. Screams of pain are heard, followed by silence.

Meanwhile, Wagar finds a new gun.

Paul tries out the new Heavy Plasma on a convienient Snakeman...

...With great success.

Breach attempt No. 2 is made, and Sam gets a new gun.

He also tries the heavy plasma, and finds it much to his liking.

However, before the snakeman died, it shot Ilya.

A Snakeman rounds the bend and shoots Sam, who dies.

Whilst Wagar comes around to avenge Sam, Andrew and Cameron quit playing Magic and get to work.

But the Snakeman is faster! It shoots Wagar!

Cameron bags the Snakeman, scoring his first kill. The only two operatives alive at this point are Cameron and Andrew. A Rookie and a Captain. How perfectly X-Com. Cameron, being the Rookie, breaches the door first.

Cameron says clear, but Andrew sees a Snakeman, and shoots.
He doesn't miss.

Cameron continues around, and meets another Snakeman. He shoots him twice, and the Snakeman drops dead.

Andrew eyes the Stun Bomb appreciatvly, but ultimately decided not to take it.

He moves up ahead of Cameron, both men secure in their knowledge that they're going to die.

Cameron comes up front again, sees a Snakeman, and misses. The Snakeman fumbles with his gun for a bit, before...

Andrew comes out and shoots that Snakeman.

Andrew and Cameron prepare to breach the door. There's no words, only a nod and a grunt. Cameron enters...

And finds an elevator room.

The two stand on the Grav Lift, and prepare to ascend, only to be cut short by an odd purple projectile coming from above. It turns sharply, flies down the elevator shaft, turns sharply at the bottom, and hits Cameron, exploding and wrecking the entire room.

END GAME

Lots of UFOs were detected, and they were all too fast to catch, or shooting back.

Torchwood did manage to intercept UFO-18, but...

The Interceptor kinda got its ass handed to it.

Lots and lots of UFOs.

The Aliens seem to be taking a particular interest in the Arctic. It's probably nothing though.

You can't really see it here (sorry), but there's a giant UFO landed on the island in the center of the screen. Giant.

And another landed right on the Polar Ice Cap.

See that pink bit next to the yellow bit? Looks like the aliens have a base in the Arctic.

*SNIP*
I'm cutting a bunch of "UFO DETECTED" and we can do nothing about it. By this point, we've lost all our fighters to aliens and we can't buy/make any more.
*SNIP*

We finished some research, and eventually we came up with this.

Pretty cool, huh?

Then we started on this.

Unfortunately, The World Bank came calling before we could finish it, and they repossessed all our stuff.
