I've been meaning to ask: wtf is with the white trees?

Nothing, they're just birch trees. They stack as a different type of log, but you can still convert them to get the same kind of wood. I think Notch just added them so we can get a variety of trees

I'm assuming the biomes each have different generation rations for trees and types of trees.

Glorious. It must've been amazing to see all the leaves light up.

Not really. I felt horrible guilt and remorse for having caused mass destruction.

While it'd be nice to have someone help me clean up the forest, I don't really like having others clean up for my own mess.

I have a surplus of iron, and I need to leave my fort alone a few nights to stress-test the anti-creeper defences anyhow. I'll help when the server gets put back up.

I don't deserve your kindness, but thank you, I'll take you up on your offer to help clear the forest.

On the bright side, once we're done with this we'll have a lot of cleared land and enough wood to last us for months.

I say we allow Wagar and Chapman to use it as their dirt farm.

For our massive upside down flying mountain base of course Mike.

And we're "farming" in the Asian sense. Click click click away mindlessly until we have 4980 pieces of dirt... and that's just for the top layer.

Edit: Mike, is there any way of getting a little indicator somewhere on the site about the server status? I had to take it down earlier for a virus scan, as if I left it up it would've been obscenely laggy and possibly interrupted the scan. I'd love to be able to indicate server status to people so they aren't left wondering about when it'll be up again.

(For anyone curious, it'll be up at approximately 9AM today.)

We could always try to go for the dedicated server idea. It'll cost money (probably around the $5-10 per month range, I don't know) but if there are enough people interested to help pitch in, it'll cost virtually nothing. That way, we won't have to worry about you leaving the server open since it'll be there 24/7.

I'd shell out for a part of it. I mean, I already pay something like 700$ a month for food and rent, another fiver isn't going to hurt.

I can't do anything about it as long as the server's on Hamachi, or any VPN, at the very least (since the webserver that the forums are on can't interact with the minecraft server at all in that case) but maybe if we have a dedicated server.

Then again, if we have a dedicated server, an indicator wouldn't be necessary since it'd be always up.

by the way i'd expect a dedicated server to be more along the lines of $30/month or something

So yeah, to make it sustainable, we'd have to have 5 or 6 people pitching in (30$ a month on one person's shoulders is way too much for any poor university student) which would mean we'd need at least 5 or 6 regular players. Seeing as how it'd be the height of rudeness to charge a fee for entry, I say we have the server funded on a volunteer basis and move it off of hamachi to something which can support more people.

I'm not so much talking about something that automatically recognizes the state of the server, more of a toggle that I can flip on and off when I have to take off the server and when I turn it back on.

I'm okay with a dedicated $/monthly server and with it being volunteer funded, but I am unwilling to shoulder more than a sixth of that. $5/monthly is as much as I'll pay for.

Hi I would like to join the Minecraft server but on hamachi it says "network is full". Do you think you can make any room for me =).

Also I am not sure how much the server would cost bandwidth wise, but I don't think it would be too expensive (a 20 slot CS:S server could be run with no extra bandwidth cost on a local area network, because i use to do it a while back on my home computer, so minecraft should be a breeze).

Just have a good home computer and a good connection (or if you live at a dorm, use the schools connection !! Win win situation =D)
