Welcome to the ARC (Summer 2012) Cataphrak
Posted 17 May 12 @ 00:15:19 by Cataphrak
Greetings to all of you new members who just signed up at Clubs Days this week and welcome back to all of our returning members. It's going to be one helluva ride here at the Altered Reality Club. We've got a lot of good stuff planned for the club this summer, and I hope that everyone here is able to come to and enjoy some of the big events we're brewing up this semester.

First of all, we have a General Meeting coming up tomorrow (May 17th) at 4:30 PM at the Rotunda (right above the main gate). Drop by if you want to introduce yourself to the rest of the club, meet (or challenge) the executives or learn about the Icebreaker (May 23rd, 6:00 PM, MBC Conference Rooms), Summer Festival (July 21st), or the other events we have planned for this semester. Afterwards, we'll be going out for dinner at the LuLu Cafe off Lougheed. (More info at our Facebook Event Page HERE).

We also hold some regular weekly events. The most important of these is Weekly Anime Screenings, which begin May 24th and will continue, every Thursday at 4:30 PM at AQ 5016. In addition, we have games of D&D, Pathfinder, Mutants and Masterminds, Dark heresy etc. spread out all over the week. Just talk to Jon (our gaming director) to see if you can find a game with an opening.

Most importantly, remember to sign up at the SFSS' club registry HERE.

That will be all, carry on.

I'd like to take a moment on behalf of myself and the other executives to welcome any and all newcomers to the Altered Reality Club. We hope that you can find a place here in our club, and enjoy being a part of it as much as we enjoy running it.

If you want more information, come to our General Meeting at the Rotunda (right above the main gate, same building as the SFPIRG and the Womens' Centre) on Monday the 23rd at 1:30 PM. We'll be introducing the executives and directors, as well as covering:
-Upcoming events for the semester.
-The Icebreaker (26th, at the MBC Atrium @ 6:30 PM)
-Club Directorships
-Tabletop RPG campaigns for the semester
-Any challenge for Club executive positions.

In addition, we we hold Weekly Anime Screenings at WMC 3250 every Thursday at 4:30 PM. This usually involves spending the evening watching two regular anime presentations (This semester's are Fractale and Nichijou) as well as a special presentation. This is usually followed by dinner or some other event. We also officially hold Tabletop Gaming Nights every Tuesday, but if you are unable to make it, we have plenty of games spread out all over the week.

If you want to enter yourself into our club registry, feel free to do so Here:

That is all, carry on.
Welcome to the ARC! Cataphrak

I would like to take a moment to welcome all the new ARCers we're seeing this year:

First of all, thanks for joining. The transitory nature of university means that members come and go every semester. However, many of us stay with the club for the entirety of their university careers, some stay and attend events even after they graduate or transfer from SFU. I hope that you all find a place here and that you decide to stay with us for a long time.

That being said, I should probably describe what we do here. The Altered Reality Club (ARC) is a video/board gaming, anime/manga, comics/graphic novel, cosplay and general social club. In short, we're a bunch of people who aren't afraid to show our love of nerdy and geeky things, and like hanging out with others who believe the same. Every semester we hold a series of events both on and off campus, usually including  major parties, several table-top gaming campaigns and outings for laser tag, bowling or karaoke, among other things. In addition, starting September 22nd, we will be showing anime screenings every Thursday evening, usually followed by dinner.

We have a semi-permanent headquarters area in the Rotunda, right above SFU's main gate. Most of us gravitate there on our free time in between classes to game, discuss club business or just hang out. In most hours of any given weekday you'll most likely find at least a handful of us sitting at one of the tables near our bulletin board. We're usually a self-contained lot, and we may initially seem intimidating; we aren't. If you hear us talking about something interesting, or see us doing or discussing something you might be interested in, feel free to join in.

Anyways, I hope our club proves to be a fixture in your life on campus, and we're always looking for new members. We're a pretty numerous outfit, so you'll likely find more than a few people who share your interests. That being said, the start of fall semester is a great time to get involved. We'll have a table at Clubs Days (Sept 13th and 14th) as well as a General Meeting on the 15th and an Icebreaker party on the 20th.

That is all, Carry on.
Upcoming Events for August 2011 Cataphrak

First of all, I'd like to thank everybody who showed up to the Summer Festival. We got something like 500 attendees (nearly twice as many as we were hoping to get!) and the whole day was a great success. I would also like to thank everybody who volunteered to help out for the Summer Festival. Having saved up for a month and a half, I hereby give you all one (1) Internet each in thanks.

Secondly, the last club event of the summer semester will take place on Saturday, August 6th. The votes are in and it was been decided that we will be going to Karaoke, where we shall have great fun shouting noises which may or may not approximate the music and lyrics of the song being played. We will most likely be going to dinner afterwards, so remember to bring about $20 of cashey-money in total for the evening.

I have the schedule for this Thursday's screenings: We will be finishing Trigun and showing seminal cyberpunk classic Ghost in the Shell and a certain episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Not just any episode, mind you, this one has Neil Patrick Harris in it, and yes, he sings. Be there, or be spherical.

The week or two following will be dedicated to showing classic animated shows from your childhood. Yes, including Reboot.

Lastly, I would like to remind all ARCers to check out this thread regarding the end-of-semester sleepover party. We need your two quatloos on what day works for you so that we may be able to inconvenience as few people as possible. Your input is important, and if you can't make it on a certain day, please say so. We'd hate to make you miss the party.

That is all, carry on.
